Note from President

Hi all,

Thank you for visiting our website! We are the Iota Sigma chapter of Alpha Phi at Carnegie Mellon University. Our vibrant chapter is the youngest on our campus, as we were established in 2012; however, our roots still run deep with the strong local and international bonds that our sisters have created. The High Ideals of Membership that we prioritize Alpha Phi include,"a unique bond of sisterhood, a spirit of generosity, high expectations for character, and a drive for innovation."

From creating their own start-ups to designing fashion lines, our members are deeply involved with not only Greek Life, but also their unique interests. There is no lost of passion when it comes to being an Alpha Phi, but we also recognize that finding success is so much more fulfilling when you have your sisters cheering you on. Alpha Phi strives to be the warm home-base where sisters can always turn to for comfort, motivation, and inspiration.

Information for Parents

Alpha Phi is committed to the safety and wellbeing of its members and does not tolerate hazing. Alpha Phi provides foundational education for our members on the best practices of hazing prevention and teaches them how to recognize, prevent, and report hazing.

Alpha Phi members hold themselves and their sisters to high academic standards. Your daughter must be enrolled as a full-time student and maintain a certain grade point average to remain a member in good standing. Each chapter has a Director of Scholarship dedicated to academic programming, ensuring individual members are supported in their educational endeavors.

Recommendation/ Legacy

The International Executive Board (IEB) voted to make changes to our membership recruitment policy and to remove the preferential treatment given to legacies during recruitment to increase access and inclusivity.

Legacies will still be defined as any daughter, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, stepdaughter, sister or stepsister of an initiated member of Alpha Phi, but chapters will now treat them equally to every other potential new member during the recruitment process.

In making this change, we want to remove barriers to access for every potential new member so that Alpha Phi can be a welcoming home to all women.  We must give the same opportunity to women whose mothers, grandmothers and sisters did not have the same access to higher education or the ability to join organizations like ours.

We are committed to making our sisterhood one of equality and inclusivity. Please check this link to make recommendations: https://alphaphi.org/join-alpha-phi/recommendations/
